PEOPLE WARNED OF PROXY WAR IN PICC TRAFFICKING

By Andi Abdussalam
Jakarta, Sept 19 (Antara) -  The people are being warned that the illegal distribution of paracetamol caffeine carisoprodol (PICC) that has taken its toll is part of the proxy war to weaken the resilience of the nation.
Minister of Education and Culture Muhadjir Effendy said rampant drug trafficking is part of proxy war that aims to destroy younger generation.
The minister made the remarks following cases where tens of teenagers were rushed to a hospital in Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi Province's capital, recently after taking PCC pills.
"Drug circulation has been in a dangerous level and its variants are also diverse, and we have to be more vigilant, as I think this is part of proxy war," the minister said in Jakarta on Monday (Sept 18).
As drugs, according to the minister, are part of a proxy war, they have significant impact that is aimed to destroy the younger generation. With drugs this great nation can easily be weakened.
"Illegal drugs are being used to weaken this huge and promising nation. Probably many parties are worried that Indonesia could emerge as a big nation and will be able to intimidate other parties. This assumption can be 50 percent true (the drug is distributed as part of proxy war) given the fact that this drug is mostly imported," Minister Effendy explained.

He explained the most important drug trafficking is taking place in the border area. For that, he asked the governors in the border areas to supervise drug trafficking especially through certain routes.

The emergence of the PCC cases is therefore considered part of a proxy war. The war is launched to weaken and control a nation without the need to mobilize military forces.
According to Defense Minister Ryamizard Ryacudu, the proxy war threat is dangerous to Indonesia because other nations do need to wage a war face-to-face.
"I have written an article 15 years ago on modern wars, namely low cost wars. This (proxy war) has the same model," the minister said at his office in February last year.
A proxy war is scary because the enemy is not seen. If at war against a country with military forces, the enemy could be detected and could be countered, he said. "In a proxy war, the nation is conquered unconsciously. If an atomic or nuclear bomb is placed in Jakarta, the capital city can be ruined, yet Semarang in Central Java is not affected. But a proxy war can ruin all. It is quite dangerous," Ryamizard remarked.
Hence, the illegal distribution of the PCC drug needs to be addressed. After all, it has claim victims. Tens of teenagers were rushed to a hospital in Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi Province's capital, recently after taking PCC pills, Head of the Kendari office of BPOM, Adillah Pababbari stated, adding that they had consumed the illegal drug.
"This PCC tablet is an illegal drug without authorization for distribution from the BPOM, as it contains carisoprodol substance sold individually," Pababbari explained in Kendari on Thursday (Sept 14), while delivering a press statement addressing the case that occurred in Kendari in the past few days. The new type of PCC drug was reported to have claimed the life of one of its victims in Southeast Sulawesi.
In order to prevent further trafficking and the fall of more victims of PCC pills, National Police (Polri) Chief General Tito Karnavian ordered all police personnel to check the circulation of the drugs.
Spokesman of Polri, Inspector General Setyo Wasisto, stated that Karnavian had ordered the police to monitor the distribution of the hazardous PCC drug. "The Chief of Police has instructed all the police to carry out operations to comb their respective areas for PCC pills," Wasisto noted in Jakarta on Monday (Sept 18).
According to him, the number of victims of PCC drug abuse in Southeast Sulawesi (Sultra) has increased to 76 people. "We can get information from Sultra that there are 76 victims," he added.
Therefore, the police should take speedy action to prevent the spread of PCC drug to other regions which have not yet been entered by the drug. Fortunately, no cases have been found in other regions in Indonesia.
Independent Policy Analyst of the Public Relations Division of Polri, Senior Commissioner Slamet Pribadi, remarked that there were no areas of PCC abuse cases other than Southeast Sulawesi. "Not yet, (there are no reports) yet of such cases in other areas," Slamet revealed.
Earlier, Public Information Head of Polri Senior Commissioner Martinus Sitompul said Sultra Regional Police had arrested nine suspects in the distribution of the illegal PCC pills. They are sellers and traffickers of the drugs.
The victims have been fallen after consuming up to five pills of the PCC. Some of the victims took the tablet after mixing them with their drinks.
In the meantime, the BPOM said PCC that claimed several lives and caused brain damage to numerous users in Kendari has an illegal content. Based on a written statement received in Jakarta on Friday, the results of laboratory tests on PCC tablets showed it positively contained the substance carisoprodol.
Drugs containing active carisoprodol substances have pharmacological effects as muscle relaxants but only briefly and in the body they soon metabolize into Meprobamat compounds that cause sedative effects. ***4***(A014/b003/B003)(T.A014/A/BESSR/Bustanuddin) 20-09-2017 00:4
