APP LAUNCHED TO PROMOTE CRAFT PRODUCTS ONLINE

 By Andi Abdussalam
Jakarta, Sept 30 (Antara) - Indonesia continues to advance its cottage industry, yet it still needs to further improve the quality of its craft products and intensively promote them to win the market, both at home and abroad.
Hence, the National Crafts Council (Dekranas) is organizing a five-day annual crafts exhibition titled 'Kriyanusa 2017 Exhibition' to help handicraftsmen promote their products and improve their welfare.
Along with the exhibition, the Dekranas has also launched an application system to help handicraftsmen promote their products online through the cyber world or the Internet.
"It is expected that the exhibition will not
only provide good results on transactions but also on promotional activities," Trade Minister Enggartiasto Lukita stated after attending the opening ceremony of Kriyanusa 2017 Exhibition at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC), Senayan, South Jakarta, on Wednesday.
Hopefully, the exhibition will support the progress and prosperity of crafters and the small and medium enterprises (SMEs). "We support the improved design and quality of the products, so that SMEs and crafters or artisans would help in promoting them," the trade minister noted.

Therefore, the Dekranas in the Kriyanusa 2017 exhibition, which is an icon of craft expo, launched an application, 'Kriya App,' to help artisans market their products online.
"President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has ordered us to increase efforts to promote and market our products online. One of the ways that we are carrying out is through the use of the 'Kriya App' application," Dekranas Promotion and Publication Head Triana (Rini) Rudiantara remarked at Kriya Nusa exhibition in Jakarta on Thursday (Sept 28).
The application will serve as a search engine and at the same time as an online shop for handicraftsmen. They can upload the pictures of their products for sales in a certain category included in the application.
To be registered in the application system, crafters should first secure a license or official recognition, which specifies that they are handicraftsmen registered with the local mayor or district head offices.
"They should first be officially registered as crafters. We do not want to have fake data. For example, the number of registered members is said to reach 3 thousand handicraftsmen but when checked it was only 250. The official letters from regional heads are needed to maintain the credibility of this application," Rini noted.
Kriya App will register the addresses and telephone numbers of the crafters, which will be integrated with the map programs, such as the Google Map, to help provide easiness in the search for locations.
"This application will provide information on the locations (of goods or handicraft products). So, if a buyer is in a certain location, he or she can seek or come to the crafters who are found in that location," Rini explained.
Besides providing information on the locations of handicraftsmen, the app also embeds a "like" feature to inform the products that are recommended to customers.
The application was initially developed by the Dekranas for the first time in Jambi Province. The Dekrans team visited crafters in the province to include them in the Dekranas data.
"The 'Kriya App' can now be downloaded from the Google Play Store for Android-based operations. In future, we will continue to develop this application to support the president's working program and to help promote and market creative economy products," she revealed.
This application is being developed by the Dekranas. The Kriyanusa exhibition which is being held from September 27 to October 1, is  a good momentum for visitors to visit artisans across the country and to join this applications.
After all, this exhibition is being attended by hundreds of crafters. The participants of Kriyanusa 2017 exhibition have reached 381 booths, which includes the National Council of Local Handicrafts (Dekranasda), throughout Indonesia. The Dekranasda has facilitated craftsmen in their respective regions, a number of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs), ministries, and creative economy institutions.
The creative economy institutions facilitate their partners and craftsmen who are already independent and are able to participate in the exhibition.
The handicraft products featured at the annual exhibition included handicraft products that have been grouped by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) based on raw materials.
They included clay ceramics, clusters of natural fibers, textile or cloth clusters, timber groups, rock groups, metal clusters, natural material groups, and processed groups of natural materials.
"We hope that the exhibition can run smoothly and obtain maximum results, so that the goal of the Dekranas in advancing and prospering crafters could be achieved," National Handicraft Council (Dekranas) chairperson Mufidah Kalla remarked.
Mufidah stated that the quality of human resources should also continue to be improved and increased in order to support the promotion of competitiveness.
"Efforts to improve the competitiveness of craft products in Indonesia, through the improvement of creativity, needs to continuously be made," Mufidah, who is also the wife of Vice President Jusuf Kalla, pointed out.    ***3***(a014/INE)EDITED BY INE/H-YH
