ECONOMIC INTEGRATION NEEDED TO FACE TRADE WAR

By Andi Abdussalam
Jakarta, June 28 (Antara) - In the face of possible trade war between giant economies of the United States and China, Indonesia has to improve the structure of its exports and help strengthen regional economic integration.
Indonesia is now reviewing the impact of the trade war threat following the possible tariff wars of the two countries.
The United States has issued a threat on Monday June 18 to slap a 10 percent import duty on US$200 billion worth of Chinese goods after Beijing decided to raise the import duty on US$50 billion worth of US commodities in response to similar measure taken by Washington on Chinese goods.
"Indeed, this trade war will come into force next month, and from now on, the minister of economy has the opportunity to evaluate what the pros and cons are. We will examine its impact to avoid negative ones," Vice President Jusuf Kalla noted at the Vice President's Palace on Tuesday (June 26).
The vice president remarked that the trade war between the United States and China will have an impact on Indonesia. Hence, it is necessary to examine the extent of the impact on the economy and the opportunities that can be utilized in the situation.

     by Andi Abdussalam
Jakarta, June 23 (Antara) - Indonesia, which will host the 18th Asian Games, has since recently been making efforts to prevent forest fires, in order to prevent haze from hindering the major sporting events.
The Asian Games will be held in the capital city Jakarta and South Sumatra's provincial capital Palembang from Aug 18 to Sept 2. Therefore, many of the efforts to fight haze are being made in South Sumatra.
The provincial government of South Sumatra continues to maximize the efforts to prevent forest and land fires by preventing the occurrence of hotspots, especially in flammable areas, ahead of the 2018 Asian Games.
Head of South Sumatra's Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), Iriansyah, stated in Palembang on Friday that it regularly monitors the possibility of the emergence of hotspots by maximizing patrols in the hope that the Asian Games would not be disrupted.
Land and air patrols continue to be maximized, so that hotspots would not occur, he noted.
He added that that if hotspots arise, especially in the peatlands, it would be difficult to prevent fires.

This year, it is estimated that more than 19.5 million people will return home to have family or friend reunions and to celebrate the festivities after fasting for one month.
Of the 19.5 million Lebaran travelers, some 6.39 million are estimated to use two-wheeled motor vehicles, according to the Indonesian Transportation Society (MTI).
Hence, the organization asked travelers, especially those driving motorcycles to pay attention to safety during their journey because motorcyclists are most prone to accident.
