BANDUNG OFFERS BIG DISCOUNT DURING GREAT SALE 2016

 by Andi Abdussalam
Jakarta, Sept 12 (Antara) - In observing its 206th anniversary, West Java's Provincial Capital of Bandung is organizing the month-long 'Bandung Great Sale (BGS) 2016' and offering big discounts to boost economic and tourism development.
Opened by Bandung Mayor Ridwan Kamil on Saturday, the event will end on October 9, with BGS 2016 facilitating business transactions among buyers and sellers of some 1,200 small and large-scale merchants, hoteliers, malls and other businesses.
BGS 2016 is located in downtown Bandung City, at Jalan Asia Africa, which hosted the historic Afro-Asian Conference in 1955. While reliving these historic memories, visitors can buy various goods and services offered by either street vendors or large scale merchants, with great discounts ranging from 10 to 90 percent.
"Big discounts are offered not only by major malls and shopping centers, but also by street traders, such as fried tofu sellers, cuanki (meat ball soup) traders and other merchants. This is what distinguishes the GBS among  other great sale events in the world," Bandung Mayor Ridwan Kamil, popularly called Emil, was quoted as saying by the detiknews portal while opening the Bandung Great Sale last Saturday.

Street vendors taking part in BGS have been developed by the regional government of the Bandung City. Some of the street hawkers are street peddlers operating in downtown Bandung Square and some others in the basement of the Bandung Indah Plaza.
The main idea is to provide chances for all to take part in the Bandung Great Sale, beginning from small traders to large merchants, Emil said. All lines of businesses are given the opportunity to take part in the sale event, which offers discounts from 10 to 90 percent.

Kenny Dewi Kaniasari, the head the marketing section of the Bandung Culture and Tourism Service, said earlier that BGS involves all small and big business lines beginning from malls, distribution outlets (distro), hotels, cafes, factory outlets, restaurants, online shopping stores, small and medium scale entrepreneurs (SMEs). At least 20 malls, over 500 retailer shops and thousands of merchants are involved, according to the inilahkoran.com portal on September 6.
People who want to shop in connection with the Bandung Great Sale event can visit places of official merchants, which are marked with special stickers. "BGS with great discounts is organized to increase economic activities and to boost the visits of tourists to the Bandung City," Bandung City Mayor Kamil said.
Economic growth in Bandung City has been recorded at 7.8 percent. The number of tourists visiting the city last year stood at six million.
"It will further increase the value of transactions. The more people visit Bandung, the bigger the number of transactions that can be concluded. So, with six million visitors, spending is expected to reach Rp6 trillion per annum," Emil added.
Besides being held to observe the Bandung City's 206th anniversary, BGS will also enliven the 19th National Sports Week (PON), which will be held from September 17 to 29.
"The BGS 2016 is being held as part of the 206th anniversary of Bandung city on September 25, and to enliven the 19th National Sports Week (PON XIX), which will be opened here on Saturday,"  Ridwan Kamil said.
The mayor said there are about 1,200 merchants, who will take part in the great sale event, which offers great discounts.
"BGS is expected to serve as a trigger for the people of Bandung in increasing shopping activities during PON XIX so that it helps create a positive impact on the city's economic and business activities," Kamil was quoted as saying by the wisatabdg.com portal when he opened BGS 2016 over the weekend.
He further said there are five big malls in Bandung, which have provided land spaces for tenants coming from Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), particularly SMEs which are being developed by the National Handicraft Council of Bandung (Dedranasda).
The big malls are BIP, Miko, Festival Citylink, Pasar Baru and Paris van Java mall.
Kamil said there will a considerable amount of money circulating in Bandung through the BGS. The number of tourists visiting Bandung has been recorded at six million so far. With PON XIX, Bandung will be visited by a large number of contingents from various regions in the country.

"The Bandung City will use 27 sports venues for 14 sports branches during the sports week competition," Bandung City's mayor said.
The opening of the sports week will be enlivened with costume and cosplay (costume and play) carnival competitions.
According to Kenny Dewi Kaniasari, the head the marketing section of the Bandung Culture and Tourism Service, merchants at BGS will offer a promotional program to visitors during the PON XIX event.
The traders will offer a 10 to 80 percent discount and a special discount for athletes, who compete in the sports week.
BGS 2016 will also have a midnight sale 2016 event during the weekend and various attractions, such as a musical stage, an arts performance, culinary and headscarf festivals and exhibitions at various shopping centers.***3***(A014/INE)EDITED BY INE
