DIENG PROMOTES TOURISM THROUGH CULTURAL FESTIVAL

 by Andi Abdussalam
Jakarta, Aug 3 (Antara) - The Dieng Plateau, which is a popular tourist resort in Central Java, is organizing its annual event 'Dieng Culture Festival (DCF) VIII' 2017 in an effort to further promote its tourism.
Dieng Plateau is a marshy plateau that forms the floor of a caldera complex on the Dieng Volcanic Complex, which is located within the districts of Banjarnegara and Wonosobo, Central Java, Indonesia.
The regional government of Banjarnegara District assured that at least 15 kings and queens across the country will attend the DCF 2017, which will last from Aug 4 to 6, 2017.
Referred to as 'Dieng' by Indonesians, it sits at 2 thousand meters (6.6 thousand feet) above sea level, far from major population centers. The name 'Dieng' comes from Di Hyang, which means 'Abode of the Gods.' According to Wikipedia, part of General Sudirman's guerrilla campaign, during the Indonesian War of Independence, took place in the area.
Head of Banjarnegara Tourism Service Dwi Suryanto told Liputan6.com on Monday (June 31) that the kings as well as kings' envoys will arrive during the run-up to the peak of the DCF on Aug 5 when the hair-cut ritual is to be performed on nine dreadlocks of the Dieng.

The kings will take part in the festival's hair-cut ritual procession, but they would not attend all processions as they would finish at the Arjuna Temple Complex.
It is expected that one of the kings will represent the royals to cut the hair of the Dieng child. But this matter would be communicated first with the DCF 2017 organizers and the Dieng tribal chief.
Chairman of the Dieng Pandawa Tourism Awareness Group (Pokdarwis), Alif Fauzi, stated that his side has prepared various accommodation facilities for welcoming the kings and queens. "We have communicated with Banjarnegara District Head Suryanto for all things that needs to be prepared. We can provide them with homestays if they want to spend the night," Fauzi revealed.
He stated on Wednesday (Aug 2) that his side has completed 95 percent of the preparations to organize the festival. "We have completed about 95 percent of the preparations," he noted on Wednesday.
Yet, until Wednesday, the organizers were still preparing various activities to hold the cultural event. Several agenda for the festival, such as Jazz Show on the Cloud and Sun-Rise Tour of Dieng, have also been prepared.
There is also an agenda where visitors will conduct an encircling tour of the Candi Arjuna Temple, Sikidang Crater, and the Telaga Warna Well. Lively events, such as a Lampion (lantern) Festival, a music performance, and Dreadlock Hair-Cut Ritual, will also be held.
Regarding the Lantern Festival, the Pokdarwis has coordinated with state-owned airport operator firm PT Angkasa Pura, so that the activities to release the typical lanterns would not disturb flights. This is because the activities of the local people to release balloons into the air were considered as disturbances to the flights.
The lampions that would be released have a capacity to fly about 100-200 meters over the land, which would not reach the flight corridors. Thus, the Lampion Festival would not endanger the safety of flights and the activities would be conducted as per schedule.
In the meantime, lodging facilities in Dieng Kulon, Banjarnegara, are fully booked for Dieng Culture Festival, owner of 'Kemangi Syariah Dieng' Homestay, Zaidan Mursalin Daud, stated in Banjarnegara on Wednesday.
"Tourists should make every effort to find alternate lodgings or look for rooms whose orders are canceled, because all rooms are full now," Mursalin Daud, who is familiarly called Iin, noted.
She remarked that inns are the most sought after by domestic and foreign tourists ahead and during the DCF events every year.
According to Iin, her lodging has already been fully booked by DCF 2017 visitors. The annual event itself is held from Aug 4 and 6 with various activities this year. There are different aspects related to the management of Iin's inn in DCF 2017 event, where the number of homestay guests is limited.
In the previous DCF, an inn received more than 25 guests. Some visitors in Iin's inn, for example, were forced to sleep on the floor as it was too crowded.
However, Iin has currently only leased three rooms, with a capacity of about seven people, she said. The most important aspects for her are the service and the comfort of the visitors.
"Regarding income, she revealed that money can come anytime in the future. Visitors will come here," she stated.
The restrictions on receiving guests were also due to fairness in the even distribution of DCF visitors. That way, homestays who cancel orders will also be benefitted by the increasing number of visitors in DCF 2017.
Pokdarwis Chairman Alif Fauzi, said there were a number of resident homestays which could be empty ahead of the DCF implementation. If visitors are clever in searching lodging facilities, they will find them.
However, he continued that the effort to find a homestay is relatively more difficult this year than finding it long before the implementation of the DCF.
Moreover, he stated that about one month before the implementation of DCF, the average homestay has been ordered or fully ordered. It is estimated that tens of thousands of visitors will attend events in the series of DCF 2017, which will be centered around Arjuna Temple, Banjarnegara.***3***(A014/INE)EDITED BY INE/H-YH(T.A014/A/BESSR/A/Yosep) 03-08-2017 22:24:
