ANCOL TO GO GLOBAL THROUGH TAFISA 2016 GAMES

 By Andi Abdussalam
Jakarta, Oct 3 (Antara) - It is no longer alien to the ears of many residents of the densely populated Jakarta when one mentions Taman Impian Jaya Ancol, or Ancol Dreamland, an amusement park in North Jakarta.
Facing Jakarta Bay, Ancol Dreamland has all the adventures the public craves: Sea World, Fantasy World, Atlantis Water Adventure, Marina Beach, swimming pools, an artificial lagoon for fishing, boating and bowling.
Besides offering visitors an assortment of nightclubs, restaurants, a steam-bath, massage parlors and many other attractions, Ancol is also now busy making preparations to participate globally, by hosting a week-long  international  sporting event beginning this week.
Ancol will host the sixth Games of The Association for International Sports for All (TAFISA), in which thousands of participants from at least 74 countries will take part.
Organizers are intensively promoting the world recreational sports, which will be held in Ancol from October 6 to 12. Promotions are being simultaneously made in seven cities of Cirebon, Tegal, Semarang, Salatiga, Solo, Yogjakarta and Purwokerto.

In Cirebon, the promotional activities were held at Bima Sports Stadium and involved the local people of the city, which is known for its shrimps.
"It is interesting. We are not yet familiar with recreational sports. TAFISA Games must be unique and attractive games. Moreover, the event is of a world class," said Indra, a local resident who came to TAFISA 2016 organizers' booth, asserted.
Apart from asking local residents to have societal interactions through playing games and winning prizes, visitors to Cirebon's Bima Sport Stadium were also briefed with matters related to the implementation of the TAFISA 2016 games.
Those sporting games are recreational sport branches which are not contested in the Olympic Games.
The organizers of TAFISA 2016 not only held promotions, but also checked preparations at the location, in particular Ancol Dreamland's Ecopark. These activities are carried out by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (Kemenpora).
In Jakarta, promotions are also held through various activities, such as gymnastics, an Orhiba breathing exercise, a Zumba Big Party dance and a fun bike race that begins at the Kemenpora office in Central Jakarta and continues to the Ancol park, North Jakarta.
"These activities are being carried out to introduce recreational sports to sports loving society and to encourage residents, so that they help to make TAFISA 2016 a success," Raden Isnanta, deputy for sports affairs of Kemenpora, said.

Based on the latest data from the organizers, 6,881 participants from 74 countries have officially confirmed their participation. They will be competing in 84 categories of recreational sports.
Besides the public in general, the organizers will also involve students in Jakarta to take part in the sports games during their work days.
"The Jakarta Education Service office will pick up students from their schools. We hope, through sports, they would understand the world's culture and sports," said Raden Isnanta.
According to Isnanta, Kemenpora, "Young Indonesian students with ideal physical fitness account for only 30 percent. Young students nowadays are often buoyed by modern communication tools, so they are reluctant to work out," he said. He said his group will again measure the fitness levels of students in two to three years.
Sports that participated in the Olympic games will not be competing in TAFISA Games 2016. As a host, Indonesia is preparing a number of special Indonesian exercises, such as the 'poco-poco' dance, to enliven the sports event.
The poco-poco dance hails from Sangihe Talaud District, North Sulawesi, which depicts the local community's traditions when they return home from toiling in rice fields or from fishing. It is an expression of thanks to God and to the local communities for having preserved their mutual-help work system.
The sixth edition of TAFISA will also be highlighted with the breaking of the Guinness Book of Records for the 'Engrang' (stilt) game, which will be contested by 2,600 competitors, and for the Zumba dance, in which 13,000 dancers will participate.
The organizers hope that TAFISA Games 2016 will attract at least 100,000 visitors.
"We set the 100,000 visitor target for the Tafisa World Sports for All 2016, particularly expecting crowds on holidays. On work days, we will involve various sports communities, such as the BMX Bike Community," noted Raden Isnanta.
He added that the aim in organizing the TAFISA games is not only to entertain residents of Jakarta, Bogor, Tangerang and Bekasi, but also to encourage the public to continue participating in physical exercises and sports.
The organizers have received confirmation from 74 countries, which will take part in the 6th TAFISA games.
Organizers are also now preparing for the opening and the closing of the games.
"We will hold simulations on the organizing of the event. There will be simulations on competition, heath, catering and transportation services. About 300,000 security personnel from the police will be deployed to assist with traffic," he said.
He is confident that the TAFISA Games 2016 would not be hampered by the Jakarta traffic gridlock, as the sports venues and hotels are inside the Ancol Recreational Park arena.
President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) will open the TAFISA Games in Ancol, Jakarta, on October 8, while Vice President Jusuf Kalla will close them on October 11.  ***4***
