SAIL TOMINI MEANS OF BUILDING TOLLERANCE

 By Andi Abdussalam
Jakarta, Aug 25 (Antara) - The upcoming 'Sail Indonesia' or 'Sail Tomini 2015' event which will peak in Central Sulawesi Province on September 19, 2015 is a means of building harmony and tolerance among different groups of people and nations.
Sail Indonesia is an annual event which this year is called 'Sail Tomini' because it will be held at Indonesia's largest gulf - 'Tomoni Bay'. It will bring together different groups of ethnicity, foreign citizenship and religious adherents.
Thus, while promoting Central Sulawesi's tourism and cultural potential, the sail event is also a means of building religious tolerance as it contains religious values, particularly Islamic values.
"The event will reinforce human relations and build a common perception about the cultivation of maritime and cultural potential in this region. This is one of the values of Islam," the Rector of the State Institute of Islamic Studies (IAIN), Prof. Dr H Zainal Abidin said on Tuesday.
He said the Sail Tomini 2015 event would also bring together not only people from a certain ethnic group, or religion, but also thousands of visitors from various ethnic groups and from different religions, even people from different nations.

Abidin, who is also the chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) for Palu city, added that Sail Tomini was not only a ceremonial event held to promote maritime and cultural potential, but also an occasion that celebrated and nurtured religious harmony.
"This is one of the Islamic values, or is in line with the Islamic values," he said.
Scheduled to be held on September 19, the sailing event will take place in Tomini Bay, Indonesia's largest bay that borders the eastern provinces of Gorontalo, Central Sulawesi and North Sulawesi.
Numerous other activities are scheduled to coincide with the festival, including the Surya Baskara Jaya healthcare operation, a village development movement, national seminars, a diplomatic tour, a yacht rally, a Tomini Bay research expedition, and media publications.
Being the largest gulf in Indonesia with an area of approximately six million hectares of natural and marine resources, Tomini Bay has great marine biodiversity. It has 1,031 hectares of coral reefs and a mangrove forest cover of 785.10 hectares.
The peak events of the festival in Central Sulawesi will be held  at Kayubura Beach in Pelawa Baru village, Parigi Moutong district.
According to Central Sulawesi Governor Djanggola recently, Sail Tomini will have a significant impact on the development of Central Sulawesi and will help to promote its tourism sector, boost industrialization and accelerate economic growth.
Activities related to Sail Tomini in Parigi will include regional promotion and a cultural week, Bhaskara Jaya social services, a fishermen's ship race, a warship parade, a Nusantara youth yacht race, and 10-K and 5-K marathons.
Maritime industries that will develop along the shoreline of Tomini Gulf after the festival will be related to tourism, fisheries, transport, trade, energy and mineral resources, telecommunications, creative economy, and services.
IAIN Rector Abidin argued that marine potential is one of this region's biggest assets, which deserves to be developed, maintained and preserved by the government and people. Besides being beautiful, the potential also offers a source of livelihood for people at large.

Therefore, wisdom is needed for cultivating the potential so that it does not become rapidly extinct.
"In The Quran, God explains that damage to land and sea is caused by mankind," he said.
Abidin hoped that Sail Tomini would impart momentum for the people and government to create and reflect on good development, which is in line with the teachings of Islam.
Meanwhile, the head of Palu's Tourism and Creative Economy Service, Norma Mardjanu said Sail Tomini was expected to bring together thousands of people to the Parigi Moutong District and Palu City.
One of the activities, which would involve thousands of people, was the carnival and cultural event.
"This event will be attended by not only the people of Parigi, but also invitees from foreign countries," he said.
Therefore, he hoped that the people would take part in it to make a success Sail Tomini, which will be held on September 19.
A total of 21 international yachts grouped in the "Back to Down Under Rally" will take part in Sail Tomini at Parigi Moutong District on September 19.
"The yachts have entered the Indonesian waters in Tarakan and are sailing towards the waters of Central Sulawesi," Raymond Lesmana, the tour operator of the Back to Down Under Rally, said in Palu on Monday.
Lesmana said the yachts have entered the Indonesian waters in Tarakan and are sailing to Berau. He added that they are scheduled to arrive in Tolitoli, Central Sulawesi, on August 26.
"They are expected to sail past Kayubura beach at Parigi Moutong district where the main event of Sail Tomini will take place on September 19," Lesmana remarked.
He noted that some 28 yachts, participating in the Back to Down Under Rally, will enliven the main event of Sail Tomini, but some of them had left the cruise route in the Indonesian waters as they were discontent with the services offered by the Indonesian government in Tarakan.***1***(T.A014/b003/B003)(T.A014/A/BESSR/Bustanuddin) 25-08-2015 23:52:41
