IIMS SHOWCASES LATEST AUTOMOTIVE TECHNOLOGY

 By Andi Abdussalam
Jakarta, Sept 24 (Antara) - The nine-day Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS) 2013, being held at the JI-Expo Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, until September 29, 2013, is showcasing automotive products developed using the latest technology.
Johnny Darmawan, chief organiser of the IIMS 2013, who is also the co-chairman of the Indonesian Motor Vehicle Industries Association (Gaikindo), said this year's IIMS is an exhibition of the latest technological innovations in the automotive sector.
"We are showcasing the latest technological innovations in the automotive sector and intend to transform the IIMS into a platform for automotive experts to meet and exchange ideas," said Johnny. He expects this year's IIMS transaction to be higher than last year, when the value stood at Rp4 trillion.
Industry Minister MS Hidayat said the automotive exposition is expected to convey to the public that amid the economic slowdown, the real sector, particularly the automotive sector, is not adversely affected.
"I want to prove through this expo that the real sector, automotive in particular, is not disturbed," added MS Hidayat while receiving the organisers of IIMS 2013.
Darmawan pointed out that a total of 36 automotive agents and 276 supporting industries are taking part in the show, and there will be 300 exhibition stands.
Automotive companies taking part in the IIMS 2013 include Toyota, Honda, Mitsubishi, and Daihatsu.

Besides exhibiting Toyota Avanza, Kijang Innova minivan, or the latest Agya cars, PT Toyota Astra Motor (TAM), for example, is also displaying its latest Toyota TS030 Hybrid car as a special product at the IIMS.
"Toyota TS030 Hybrid has been produced as a realisation of Toyota's dream of providing a better future," said Marketing Director of PT Toyota Astra Motor Rahmat Samulo at a press conference.
Toyota TS030 Hybrid is a racing car, developed under Le Mans Prototype (LMP1), with Toyota Hybrid System-Racing (THS-R) technology.
It is the first hybrid car taking part as the main participant of the LMP1 class in the Le Mans 24 Hours racing event.
"The innovation of Toyota as one of the pioneers in the hybrid vehicle production in the world is able to bring the hybrid system one step ahead to matters unimaginable before," said Samulo.
Toyota TS030 has been developed with a two driving power system, namely conventional and electrical power. THS-R combines conventional machines with a capacity of 3,400 cc and a configuration of V8 powered with 530 HP and electric power of 300 HP. With a total power of 830 HP, TS030 is almost equivalent to formula vehicles.
"We are exhibiting the replica of Toyota TS030 Hybrid in the IIMS 2013 as a token of appreciation to the public," Samulo noted.
Toyota TS030 Hybrid appeared for the first time at the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) in 2012. Until now, it has passed nine racing events, with a score of winning the championship three times and the pole position four times.
At the expo, however, TAM does not offer a sale promotion to attract buyers. "From the beginning, our participation in the IIMS is not mainly for sale but for introducing Toyota's latest technological innovations in the automotive sector. Therefore, Toyota does not offer any promotions at its booth," TAM's GM for Corporate Planning and Human Relations Widyawati said at the IIMS 2013 complex on Monday.
She said it is not fair to the customers who have purchased cars through dealers if Toyota provides promotional price at the expo, because with the promotion, consumers would be able to purchase cars at a lower price while at the dealers, they would purchase at a higher price.
PT Honda Prospect Motor (HPM) is also exhibiting a hybrid car product at the IIMS. HPM is displaying its car of the NSC concept as a special product.
The car, which has been developed by HPM's research centre in Ohio, the United States, is the latest super-car generation, which combines performance and appearance in the sports car category with environmentally friendly hybrid machine.
The presence of Honda NSX Concept at the IIMS 2013 is the first of its kind in the Asia-Oceania region. It appeared for the first time in the North America International Motor Show (NAIAS) 2012 in Detroit, Michigan, the United States.
It adopts the Sport Hybrid All Super Handling All Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) machine, a new type of machine supported with three high performance electrical motors.
HPM had previously sold 18,737 units of Honda NSX cars throughout the world from 1990 to 2007.   The NSX Concept will be introduced in a number of countries, including Indonesia.
Besides the new concept, HPM is displaying other products such as New Jazz, Freed, City, Civic, All New CR-V, and All New Accord cars.
Unlike Toyota Astra Motor, which is not launching a promotional sale at the expo, HPM offers an interesting promotional price for its cars.
Honda is offering a promotion for its customers, with an instalment of zero percent interest for two years for New Jazz, Freed and City cars and one year for Civic, All New CR-V, and All New Accord cars.
In the meantime, Mitsubishi Motor is favouring its Mirage to compete in the city car market segment where city cars are now facing a tight market competition.

"So far, we are superior in the SUV class with our Pajero Sport product. And now, we have another vehicle - the Outlander. Yet, we are favouring Mirage cars in the city car class," said Operating General Manager Mitsubishi Motors Corporation Marketing Division Duljatmono on Monday.
Virtually, Duljatmono said, Mitsubishi favours all types of cars on display at the IIMS 2013 such as Pajero Sport, Outlander, and Mirage because they cater to different market segments.
For the segment of the city car class, Mirage continues to grow, reaching 60 percent of the market. Therefore, Mitsubishi will continue to develop Mirage as a passenger vehicle in the city car class.
At the IIMS, PT Astra Daihatsu Motor (ADM) is launching its new variant Daihatsu Ayla, namely Ayla M Sporty and Ayla X Elegant.
"The new Ayla variant is launched to fulfil the demands of customers who are young at heart and need sporty and elegant nuances," President Director of ADM Sudirman MR said while launching M Sporty and X Elegant cars at the IIMS 2013 on Friday.
Sudirman said his company is optimistic that the new Ayla variant will serve as a favourite car for Indonesian consumers and the world market.
He said Daihatsu's cars produced under the low-cost and green car (LCGC) concept could positively contribute to the automotive industry in the country. ADM launched cars produced under the LCGC concept, namely Astra Daihatsu Ayla, on September 9, 2013.
Chief Operation Officer of PT Astra International - Daihatsu Sales Operation Toto Suryana Wijaya said the presence of Ayla M Sporty and Ayla X Elegant complement Astra Daihatsu Ayla's variant production type.
"Through the production of the two types of vehicles, Daihatsu is willing to reach out to a wider market," he said.***3***
