Jakarta, May 14 (Antara) -- Indonesia is taking part in Italy's
six-month-long World Expo Milano 2015 (WEM 2015), one of the world's
biggest events after the Olympics and the World Cup, to promote its
maritime and tourism potentials.
Throughout
the expo, which began on May 1 and will be held till October 31, the
Indonesian pavilion will show 'Indonesia Today and in the Future' and
promote Indonesian products and maritime potential.
Indonesia hopes to attract two million tourists from Europe after promoting its tourism potential all through the event.
"Visitors
of World Expo Milano 2015 can witness Indonesia's tourist destinations
and enjoy their beauty through an oculus media show that will make it
appear as though they are traveling in Indonesia," Nus Nuzulia Ishak,
the director general for National Export Development of the Ministry of
Trade, said during the premiere of the "Virtual Journey of Indonesia" at
the Indonesian pavilion in Milan on Thursday, May 7.
To promote the potential of the Indonesian maritime sector, Indonesia
is launching a one-month-long voyage to WEM in Italy. Codenamed Kartika
Jala Krida, the voyage is aimed at promoting Indonesian culture around
the world.
A delegation of 163 cadets from the Navy Academy,
Jakarta's Fisheries College, and the Shipping College, among others, is
now sailing to the World Expo Milano.
"The Kartika Jala Krida Voyage to the World Expo Milano 2015 is one of
the efforts to reinstate Indonesia's maritime position in the world.
This is a good opportunity to appear in the world forum by taking the
nation's banners to the event," Coordinating Minister for Maritime
Affairs Indroyono Soesilo noted in a statement released by the Ministry
of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) on Monday (May 4) last week.
He added that the five-yearly World Expo Milano was one of the world's
biggest events after the Olympic Games and the World Cup. As many as 145
countries were participating in WEM 2015, which is expected to attract
120 million visitors from across the world.
Based on the theme "Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life," WEM will last for six months from May 1 to October 31.
Indonesia took part in the expo for the first time in New York, the
United States, in 1961, with a voyage using its 'Dewa Ruci' warship. It
was seen off by the then president Soekarno.
The current voyage of the Kartika Jala Krida was initiated by
Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Indroyono Soesilo. It began
on April 30 and will last till June 10, when it will arrive back in
Surabaya, East Java.
The
voyage started from Surabaya, and after halting at Medan, North
Sumatra, it continued sailing to Cochin (India), Salalah (Oman),
Alexandria (Egypt) and Genoa (Italy). On its way back to Indonesia, the
voyage will halt at Jidda (Saudi Arabia), Karachi (Pakistan), Padang
(West Sumatra), Jakarta, and finally reach Surabaya (East Java).
According to Coordinating Minister Indroyono Soesilo, the Kartika Jala
Krida involves representatives of coastal people and main players in the
maritime and fisheries sector. They have skills and are trained in
navigation, the use of fish catch equipment, high seas operations,
aquaculture, and water area conservation.
"The cadets are national defense reserves. It was the right decision to
involve cadets from non-naval academies," Soesilo remarked.
He stated that WEM 2015 was expected to serve as a strategic platform
to promote the Indonesian maritime and fisheries sector to the world
through the participation of lecturers and cadets of the Fisheries
College.
Besides the maritime and fisheries sector, Indonesia is also promoting
its tourism potential at WEM through a virtual tour of Indonesia.
Visitors of the Milan expo can enjoy a virtual tour of Indonesia
through oculus media show "Virtual Journey of Indonesia" at the
Indonesian pavilion.
Director General for National Export Development of the Ministry of
Trade Nus Nuzulia Ishak recently noted that the oculus media show will
provide visitors at the Indonesian pavilion of the WEM a feel of
Indonesia through a virtual journey of Indonesia.
They can experience Indonesia's tourism attractions, such as hearing
the 'whisper' of sand at Mount Bromo or being present in a car-free
Jakarta.
Oculus is a virtual media platform that gives a true-to-life experience
of having visited a place. This medium of latest technology, which was
discovered by Palmer Lucky, is equipped with a special four-dimensional
spectacle and a supporting screen to produce the desired effects. Users of the technology can also experience real-life effects, such as dew and water, among others.
Therefore, the Indonesian pavilion, which aims to showcase the
country's present and future, is using the oculus media to let visitors
experience Indonesia.
"Visitors at WEM 2015 can virtually witness and feel Indonesia's
tourism attractions through the oculus media show as though they were
traveling in Indonesia," Ishak affirmed during the premiere of "Virtual
Journey of Indonesia" at the Indonesian pavilion in Milan on Thursday,
May 7.
Visitors will feel as though they are actually visiting Indonesia
through a virtual medium. The use of the medium for the "Virtual Journey
of Indonesia" is expected to attract more visitors to the Indonesian
pavilion.
Moreover, the show is located near the Bogor Cafe Desa Restaurant. So
visitors can enjoy Indonesian culinary specialties such as "sate ayam"
(chicken satay), "nasi goring" (fried rice), and various others
delicacies.
"So
if visitors want to enjoy unforgettable Indonesian tourism attractions
and culinary specialties in a single day, they can just visit the
Indonesian pavilion at WEM, Milan," Ishak added.
The Indonesian pavilion has a zone for food, which presents the
richness of Indonesian natural specialties such as spicy food, coffee,
chocolate, sugar, tea and Indonesian culinary delicacies that have
successfully entered the global market.
It also has a maritime zone that presents the historic voyage of Marco
Polo, and a culture zone that presents Indonesian food with spiritual
values.
Covering an area of 1,175 square meters, the Indonesian pavilion will
hold a series of programs to mark occasions such as World Ocean Day,
Indonesian National Day, and Indonesian Coffee Week.
In addition, the Indonesian pavilion has a bronze icon of the West Java
Rhino weighing 500 kilograms. It symbolizes Indonesia's efforts to
preserve its ecosystem.***3*** (T.A014/INE) EDITED BY INE
