JAKARTA CITIZENS HOLIDAYING WITH AIRPORT TRAIN

 By Andi Abdussalam
Jakarta, Dec 26 (Antara) - Jakartans are luckier as they can take advantage of the current Christmas and New Year celebrations and their holidays to enjoy a newly operated airport train, which will be on trial until Jan 1, 2018.
The operation of the airport train, beginning on Tuesday (Dec 26), will complete the train transportation system, which included the launch of the operation of the skytrain at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport last September to transport passengers within the airport terminals.
The operations of the skytrain, also known as the automated people mover system (APMS) train, will be integrated with that of the airport train and other Jabodetabek electric trains, in order to increase the mobility of passengers to and from the airport.
Jakarta residents could also try it as the ticket is still cheap, namely Rp30 thousand per passenger. The normal ticket price will be imposed beginning Jan 2, 2018, valued at Rp70 thousand per passenger.
Therefore, during the Christmas and New Year Eve celebrations, Jakartans can enjoy their time by trying out the airport train.
On Tuesday, residents of Jakarta and surrounding areas enthusiastically spent the holidays together by trying out the Soekarno-Hatta Airport Train from Sudirman Baru Station (BNI City).

The Airport Train Trials are open to the public starting on Tuesday (Dec 26) until Jan 1, 2018, with a promotional rate of Rp30 thousand. "We have a family of nine people here. We are trying out the train as part of our holiday celebrations," said one passenger of Airport Train, Yangky Mulyanto, at Sudirman Baru Station in Jakarta on Tuesday.
Mulyanto came with eight relatives from Rawamangun in East Jakarta to try the Airport Railway facilities and to see the New Sudirman Station.
He expressed hoped that with the airport train, residents who live in Jakarta can switch from land transportation, including public buses, taxis and private cars, to using the train so as to reduce traffic jams.
Mulyanto claimed that the payment process with vending machine did not pose any troubles even though the new mode of payment can enable the use of debit and credit cards.
On the same occasion, another passenger, Ivan Hutapea, was interested in trying the airport train to find out the difference in the travelling time travel between public buses and the airport train, which is operated by Railink.
"I want to try to assure its coverage time, so that I can make preparations when I am going home. If we take the Damri bus, it could be four hours from Rawamangun, but with this train, I would have to spend only an hour at the longest," Hutapea noted.
Other passengers who have tried the airport train, namely Budi Akbar from Makassar, claimed to be satisfied with the facilities in the train.
According to him, the airport train, whose ticket will be pegged for Rp70 thousand starting from Jan 2, 2018, greatly facilitates the passengers who live in downtown Jakarta.
"Whether it is expensive or not could be seen from the destination points. I happen to want to go to Senayan area and so it is easy, but if I go to Ciputat, it will be easier to ride a taxi through toll road,"  Budi explained.
Railink is operating the airport train with six carriages that can accommodate 272 passengers. It has 42 trips.
The operations of the airport train support the transportation system of Soekarno-Hatta airport, which had earlier launched the APMS train or skytrain.
Passengers or other visitors, who usually board a bus to travel between the airport's Terminals 1, 2, and 3, can use a skytrain. In full operations, it will serve passengers round the clock and is expected to be integrated with the airport train that serves routes linking it with Jakarta and its buffer towns of Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi (Jabodetabek).
State-Owned Enterprises Minister Rini Soemarno had earlier planned to integrate the operations of the APMS skytrain with the airport train before year-end.
"The skytrain has been operational at the Soekarno-Hatta airport, though the operations are still limited. However, we hope that the Skytrain and Jabodetabek commuter line train to the airport would be connected before the end of the year," the minister stated last September.
She revealed that her side continues to improve the operations until the skytrain will eventually connect Terminals 1, 2, and 3 or even Terminal 4, which is still under construction. "This is the first APMS we have, and we should guarantee that passengers feel secure and comfortable," she emphasized. ***3***(A014/INE)EDITED BY INE
