Jakarta, July 6 (Antara) - Indonesia's diaspora is a potential asset overseas that can help the government to boost its trade and promote its tourism sector in foreign countries.
Hence, the Ministry of Trade will establish a House of Indonesia (HOI) in cooperation with members of the Indonesian diaspora in several countries in its efforts to promote trade, tourism, and investment. The HOI is expected to present and promote Indonesia's varied potentials in several fields, particularly in the trade, tourism, and investment sectors. The HOI will comprise five main programs aimed at increasing exports: Trade Events and Sales Mission, Trade Advisory, Business Facilitation, Getting to Know the Remarkable Neighbors, and Development of an e-Business Platform.
Australia is one of the main countries in which Indonesia will establish the HOI in cooperation with members of the Indonesian diaspora. It is expected to be built in Sydney in 2019, the Ministry of Trade noted in its press statement on Monday (July 3).
The efforts of the Ministry of Trade to boost Indonesia's exports to Australia are welcomed by the Indonesian diaspora in Australia. Hence, Duliyanti Sunaryo of the Indonesian diaspora in Sydney had initiated the establishment of a house and promotional facility called HOI that is planned to be set up in Sydney in 2019.
"The Ministry of Trade provides support by moving the Indonesian Trade Promotion Centre (ITPC) Office to the location of the HOI, so that the representatives can cooperate more actively and synergistically with the Indonesian diaspora," Secretary General of the Ministry of Trade Karyanto Suprih noted at the signing of a memorandum of understanding with the Sydney HOI manager, Ozimex International Pty Ltd, on the sidelines of the 4th Indonesian Diaspora Congress in Jakarta, Saturday (July 1).
Suliyanti Sunaryo said the HOI is a platform to showcase Indonesia's potential in various fields, especially in the trade, tourism, and investment sectors.
The Trade Ministry will encourage the government and private agencies to optimize the presence of HOI in Sydney. Furthermore, Suprih has urged other members of the Indonesian diaspora to follow in the steps of Sunaryo for establishing HOI in the country where she lived. "All Indonesian promotional units abroad -- ITPC, Indonesia Investment Promotion Center (IIPC), and Visit Indonesia Tourism Office (VITO) -- are expected to utilize HOI as a means for carrying out integrated promotion of Indonesia," Suprih affirmed.
The Ministry of Trade has repositioned the role of the Trade Attaché and ITPC to serve as a marketing-oriented "business agent," and no longer as an official to be visited. With its new role, trade representatives are required to have knowledge of potential buyers and competitors and to master business intelligence capabilities. Trade representatives should also own and have knowledge of products and business processes of Indonesian export items.
"We hope that by repositioning this role, the Trade Attachés and ITPC would more actively cooperate in a synergistic manner with the Indonesian diaspora in an effort to increase exports," he stated.
Director General of National Export Development of the Trade Ministry Arlinda asserted that the diaspora has, in fact, benefited Indonesia. However, to be able to optimize these benefits, it takes innovative ways to promote Indonesia.
"With the knowledge and experience the diaspora members have gained from the country where they live, we are confident that they can share it with the people of Indonesia to help build the nation," Arlinda noted.
The 4th Diaspora Forum, inaugurated by the 44th president of the US Barack Obama, was held on July 1, 2017, in Jakarta. The Diaspora Convention provided an effective platform for all members of the Indonesian diaspora to share information and experiences as well as expand their business networks.
This event was also believed to inspire other Indonesian citizens to become diaspora members or establish business cooperation with other members of the diaspora to develop their own businesses and eventually the Indonesian economy.
"The presence of former US president Barack Obama at this convention signifies the position of Indonesia being viewed as a country that has a strategic role at the global level, including with the diaspora, as one of its assets. At this forum, Obama said we should use (this event) to boost the positive image of Indonesia (the nation's branding) among the international community," he emphasized.
Arlinda also invited all members of the Indonesian diaspora to return to work in Indonesia. Diaspora is the face of Indonesia; the representation of the country abroad.
"The diaspora is the real brand ambassador of Indonesia. Let us support each other and involve business players in Indonesia in business, buying, and wearing of Indonesian products. The Indonesian diaspora is also invited to invest in Indonesia and visit the country regularly for the sake of the nation's economy," Arlinda was quoted by the Trade Ministry as saying in a press statement on Monday.***3***(A014/INE)EDITED BY INE/H-YH(T.A014/A/BESSR/A/Yosep) 06-07-2017 19:19: |
