Jakarta, July 7 (Antara) - Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi and Tourism Minister Arif Yahya have praised and appreciated the performance of airports in Indonesia for their successful services during the post-fasting Eid al-Fitr or Lebaran travelers exodus this year.
Transportation services through all airports under the management of airport operator PT Angkasa Pura II during this year's post-fasting Eid al-Fitr or Lebaran travelers¿ exodus was successful and better than last year.
"In general, airport operations and services during the Lebaran transportation services ran normally in a smooth and comfortable manner," PT Angkasa Pura II President Director, Muhammad Awaluddin, said in a press statement here on Friday.
This year, the increase in the number of passengers and the flight trips was coupled with the improvement in airlines¿ performance.
According to Awaluddin, although there was a significant increase in the number of extra flights, the performance of airlines was something to be proud of as it could be observed from the accuracy of the flight schedule time, which reached 80 percent.
The number of extra flights this year increased from 689 flights during the 2016 Lebaran festivities to 1,639 in the 2017 Eid al-Fitr season.
Based on data at PT Angkasa Pura (AP) II, the number of Lebaran travelers flying through the 13 airports of AP II 10 days before the Eid D-Day and seven days after the D-Day (D-10 to D+7 or June 15 to July 3, 2017) was recorded at 6.13 million, up 9.7 percent from the same period last year.
AP II operates 13 airports in the western part of the country, while PT Angkasa Pura I (AP I) also operates 13 airports in the central and eastern part of Indonesia.
Lebaran travelers during the homecoming from D-10 to D+1 (June 15-25) totaled 3.57 million and during the backflow of the Lebaran travelers from D+2 to D+8 (June 26 to July 4), PT AP II recorded 2.55 million Lebaran holiday travelers.
Especially at the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, the number of air travelers from D-10 to D+7 totaled 3.60 million, of which 2.51 million were recorded during the homecoming period and 1.45 million during the backflow season (reverse flow).
Backflow Lebaran travelers flying through all airports under the management of PT AP II are expected to still travel up to D+20, or July 16, 2017 so that the number of passengers will still increase.
"AP II is grateful to the airlines, ground handling officials, regulators, and all related stakeholders for their work. so that we can all implement the on-time performance (OTP) standard, which is one of the success indicators of Lebaran transportation, especially with regard to the extra flights," he remarked.
The service standard during this year's Lebaran transportation period also increased along with the operation of new terminals at AP II airports such as at Husein Sastranegara International Airport in Bandung, Supadio International Airport in Pontianak, and Terminal 3 at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport.
As is known, the new Terminal 3 is operated for first time for Lebaran transportation this year. The operation of Terminal 3 greatly reduces the density at Terminals 1 and 2 and creates more space for both passengers and supporting facilities to increase service standards.
The appreciation of successful and better Lebaran transportation in AP II airports was also voiced by Director General of Air Transportation Agus Santoso and Secretary General the Transportation Ministry Soegihardjo.
In the meantime, the number of airline passengers traveling from 13 airports under the the management of AP I during post-fasting Lebaran festivities reached 5.18 million, up 5.55 percent from that in 2016, which was 4.91 million.
"The increase in the passengers indirectly indicated the increase in public trust in air transportation industry and improvement in the purchasing power of the people," President Director of PT Angkasa Pura I, Danang S Baskoro, stated in a written statement in Jakarwta on Thursday.
PT Angkasa Pura I is the operator of the 13 airports, whose air passengers increased by 5.55 percent during this year's Lebaran festivities, which lasted from June 15 to July 3, 2017.
