Jakarta, March 21 (Antara) - The government, through National Development Planning Board (Bappenas), hopes that construction of Phase II of Jakarta's Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) project would start soon following the delay in the completion of the project's Phase I.
Bappenas Head Bambang Brodjonegoro stated in Jakarta on Sunday that Phase I of the MRT project had been scheduled for completion by the end of 2018 but it had been delayed until February 2019.
Therefore, the construction of Phase II should be started soon because Phase II is the continuation of Phase I which both are parts of Jakarta's MRT South-North Line.
Jakarta is planning to develop two main lines of MRT which will crisscross the capital city with a total length of 117.6 kilometers (km) and are expected to help unravel Jakarta's traffic woes.
The two main lines are the South-North and the East-West lines. The construction plan of the MRT lines is carried out in three phases, notably Phase I, Phase II and Phase III.
Construction of the South-North Line stretching 30.6 km from Lebak Bulus in the South to Ancol Timur in the North is carried out in Phase I and Phase II.
Construction of Phase I covering the Lebak Bulus-Hotel Indonesia corridor (16 km) is expected to be completed in February 2019 while that of Phase II covering the Hotel Indonesia-Ancol Timor corridor (14.6 km) is expected to be started in 2018.
Meanwhile, the construction of MRT East-West Line which stretches 87 km from Cikarang in the East to Balaraja in the west will be started two years earlier than originally scheduled for 2022.
According to Bambang Brodjonegoro, the government is still mulling its plan to move forward the start of construction of the East-West Line (Cikarang-Balaraja).
Regarding the construction of Phase I which runs from Lebak Bulus in the south to Hotel Indonesia in Central Jakarta, Brodjonegoro said all tunnels have been connected. Final drilling work is underway using Antareja 1, Antareja 2, Mustikabumi 1 and Mustikabumi 2 boring machines.
The connection of the four drilling works by the boring machines indicated that the MRT Phase I subway work structure has been completed by 80 percent while the work for its elevated section have been completed 50 percent.
The MRT Phase I project will have two main sections, one will be an elevated corridor and the other section will be a subway. The elevated section will run 9.8 km from Lebak Bulus to Sisingamangaraja, while the subway or underground section will stretch 5.9 km from Sisingamangaraja to the Hotel Indonesia roundabout in Central Jakarta.
Based on plan, six underground stations would be built along the route at Masjid Al Azhar, Istora Senayan, Bendungan Hilir, Setiabudi, Dukuh Atas, and the Hotel Indonesia roundabout, and seven elevated stations at Lebak Bulus, Fatmawati, Cipete Raya, H Nawi, Blok A, Blok M and Sisingamangaraja.
When operations begin, the MRT can carry up to 212,000 people a day, which can later be increased to 960,000 passengers per day. The route will be covered in 30 minutes and the MRT ticket can be integrated with other transportation systems. The trains will run at a headway of or a frequency of once every five minutes, which could be later increased to one train once every three minutes.
The construction of the 16 km MRT Phase I is expected to cost 140 billion yen, with the Japan International Cooperation Agency lending 125 billion yen and the Jakarta regional government contributing 15 billion yen.
Regarding Phase II, the Hotel Indonesia - Ancol Timur corridor, PT Mass Rapid Transit Jakarta (PT MRT Jakarta) has established cooperation with PT Pembangungan Jaya Ancol firm. They signed the cooperation agreement regarding the construction of mass rapid transit early this month (March 2017).
The memorandum of understanding of the project was jointly signed by PT Mass Rapid Transit Jakarta President Director William Sabandar and PT Pembangunan Jaya Ancol President Director Paul Tehusijarana in present of Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama or Ahok.
In the cooperation, PT Pembangunan Jaya Ancol agreed to allocate a plot of land for PT MRT Jakarta to develop a station and a depo as part of the construction of the Jakarta MRT Phase II.
The signing of the MoU is a follow to the instruction of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi).
The president instructed that the start of the construction of the Jakarta MRT project, Phase II, should be accelerated and moved forward from the initial plan in 2019 to 2018. The Phase II corridor was initially planned to run from Hotel Indonesia to Kampung Bandan covering 8.5 km but it is impossible for the MRT to develop a depo in Kampung Bandan so that the length of Phase II is extended to reach Ancol Timur area, the total length of Phase II becomes 14.6 km.(A014/ ) (T.A014/A/BESSR/Suharto) 22-03-2017 01:10: |
