Jakarta, March 9 (Antara) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) will not be affected by the political impact of a graft trial over the procurement of identity cards (e-KTP) project for 2011-2012 period.
"Of course, we have not taken any political impact (in handling the case) into account, because the KPK's focus is to tackle this case in a legal manner," KPK Spokesman Febri Diansyah said, referring to the numerous big names mentioned in the prosecutor's indictment, at the KPK building here on Wednesday.
According to Diansyah, the KPK will focus on two defendants linked to the e-KTP graft case who will be tried in the court.
"We will continue to collect information, facts, and pieces of evidence. The KPK will handle this case as maximally as possible based on its authority. Therefore, the KPK will go on through the legal process based on its authority," Diansyah stated.
He added that KPK would proceed with the case on legal grounds. Regarding the political impact, he also stated that laws must be respected. "Because this country is based on the law, we will proceed with the legal process based on the KPK authority," he added.
He noted that in the e-KTP trial, the court will hear not only the names but also chronologies from the beginning of events. Hence, it would not be appropriate to avoid certain names and their respective roles, though all are not players in this graft case.
"In general, there are two people who have been named suspects and are believed to have committed the crime along with the others. But the remaining names will be disclosed tomorrow (in court). They might be from the bureaucracy, the ministry, or from the legislative body. This is because the case took place from 2010 to 2012, or even before that. We will also reveal the meetings by certain parties who discussed the e-KTP project even before the official meetings were held," Diansyah remarked.
Earlier, KPK Chairman Agus Rahardjo, at the Presidential Office on Friday, pointed out that the indictment on the e-KTP graft case will reveal big names and their roles in the project.
"You will read, hear, and see it. Hopefully, there would be no major political chaos, because there are numerous names mentioned in it (indictment)," the KPK chairman underlined.
The KPK had submitted the dossiers of the case on Wednesday (March 1) to the Corruption Criminal Court located at the Jakarta District Court in Central Jakarta.
The dossiers included a 24 thousand-page investigation report (BAP) of the suspects and witnesses.
"When you listen to the indictment, you will be surprised, because there are many names mentioned in it. This is the first batch that will be handled periodically and in stages. The others will be revealed later," Rahardjo stressed.
In the e-KTP graft case, two have been named suspects, namely former director general of population and civil registration of the Ministry of Home Affairs Irman, and the former managing director of population administrative information who was also the planning bureau chief of the Home Affairs Ministry, Sugiharto.
Both suspects have promised to serve as justice collaborators to help reveal the corruption crime.
The KPK also received the reimbursement of the corrupt money amounting to Rp250 billion from corporations and 14 individuals. Of the amount, Rp220 billion was from corporations and Rp30 billion was from individuals. Some of the 14 individuals were DPR members.
The e-KTP graft case is believed to have incurred a loss of Rp2.3 trillion to the state out of the Rp5.9 trillion worth project.
In the meantime, House Speaker Setya Novanto said he fully supports the efforts of the KPK to investigate the alleged corruption in the e-KTP) graft case in hope that it would not create political chaos.
"As chairman of the House of Representatives (DPR), I support legal supremacy and the efforts (of the KPK) to thoroughly investigate the alleged e-KTP corruption case. I also spoke to the KPK, so that the case would not trigger political chaos," Novanto stated at the Nusantara Building in Jakarta on Wednesday.
The House speaker also admitted to have seen the copy of the prosecutor's leaked indictment document.
Though his name has appeared in the indictment, Novanto has left the fate of the case on the ongoing legal process. He also denied any involvement in the project. He denied having held a meeting with Nazaruddin (former Democratic Party treasurer), Anas Urbaningrum (former chairman of Democratic Party), and Andi Narogong (businessman close to Home Affair Ministry) in connection with the e-KTP project, clarifying that he had explained it to the KPK.
"I have never received anything from the e-KTP project. I have explained all to the KPK and clarified it as clearly as possible," he noted.***2*** (A014/INE)EDITED BY INE/H-YH(T.A014/A/BESSR/A/Yosep) 09-03-2017 20:18 |
