Jakarta, June 15 (Antara) - The Jakarta Government is organizing a
three-day Regional Creative Products Week (PPKD)at National Monument
(Monas) Square, the former venue for years of the Jakarta Fair (PRJ)
which has moved to former Kemayoran airport. The Monas creative
product week, which is held amid the on-going a month-long Jakarta Fair
in the former Kemayoran airport, is to provide arena for small
businesses which are not accommodated at the PRJ.
Jakarta Governor Joko Widodo (Jokowi) considered that the Jakarta Fair
had developed into a promotion arena for large scale businesses, thus
marginalizing small and medium enterprises (SME).
Therefore, the Jakarta regional government is considering bringing back
the annual PRJ to Monas, or creating another venue which is suitable
for bringing back the spirit of the folk culture and business festivity.
The PRJ, which was held for the first time in 1968, was moved to the
former Kemayoran airport site in 1992. That's why the implementation of
Regional Creative Products Week in Monas square from Friday to Sunday
was trail, according to Jakarta Governor Jokowi.
"We will hold the regional creative products week at Monas Square as a
potential site for the new Jakarta Fair that includes small and medium
enterprises," the Jakarta governor said on Thursday.
The Jakarta Regional Creative Products Week (PPKD), which was opened by
Deputy Governor Basuki Tjahja Purnama on Friday aims to promote
handicraft products from various areas in the capital city.
"We share the desire of the governor (Jokowi) who wants to maintain
Jakarta (PRJ) as the center for handicraft product exhibition from
various regions, particularly Jakarta," Basuki said in his address when
opening the PPKD at Monas Square on Friday.
According to the Jakarta deputy governor, all small business players
have the chance to develop their business into large scale firms, as
long as facilities for them to promote their products are made
available.
"All
SME players in Jakarta can actually become big businessmen. The problem
they face is that they have to pay expensive facilities (in the PRJ).
Therefore, we are trying to facilitate them," Basuki, who was
accompanied by Head of the Industry and Energy Service of Jakarta Andi
Baso, said.
He said that the PPKD was only trial. So, it was implemented in small
scale. Jakarta residents can visit it (for free). The fair in Monas is
slightly different from the PRJ because the PPKD is especially designed
for micro, small and medium-sized businesses and for domestic or cottage
industrial products.
"We have the concept that the fair will be held annually for macro,
small and medium enterprises. This will make it different from the PRJ,"
Basuki said.
PPKR 2013 displays various kinds of creative products from industries
in all parts of Jakarta. In line with the event, a number of events
providing marketing strategy and business guidance are also held in the
form of mini conventions and workshops.
The Jakarta creative product week also presents a number of
entertainments such as street acrobats, marawis (a kind of percussion
music) shows, Miss Jamu (herbs) parades, 'lompat tali' (rope jump)
games, and a number of quizzes with prizes. There is also Jakarta
Native Betawi theater, which presents local Batawi (Batavia) arts and
culture performances such as pencak silat, dances, shadow show and
'lenong'(folk theater).
Jakarta Tourism Service Head Arie Budhiman hailed the holding of the
Jakarta Regional Creative Product Week, saying that the fair could
become a good event for the people of Jakarta.
"I hope the PPKD event will be reinforced with various attractive arts
and cultural performance which is being waited for by the people of
Jakarta. This will eventually be able to improve the people's welfare
and economy," Arie said.
According
to Andi Baso, the head of the Industry and Energy Service of Jakarta,
PPKD 2013 is expected to serve as a means of promotion for Jakarta's
creative work and its human resources.
"PPKD
2013 is a means of promotion for various creative and cultural products
of various parts of Jakarta," Andi Baso said.
He said that the PPKD was part of the 486 anniversary of Jakarta. So,
he said, the PPKD 2013 was also expected to serve as an embryo of the
implementation of new PRJ.
"Although the plan to bring back the PRJ to Monas again is still a
discourse, the PPKD could serve as an embryo for a new PRJ. Business
players, particularly SME business, have paid a special attention to the
discourse," said Andi.
Previously, Jakarta Governor Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said he was planning
to change the concept of Jakarta Fair 2014 into creativity reach
activities.
"Ahead, we will give priority to creativity in organizing the PRJ
because the event is initially designed for cultural-based creativity
products," Governor Jokowi said.
He said that the PRJ this year inclined to show commercial and business
aspects so that people's creativity and cultural works lacked
attention.
"Cultural creativity in the current PRJ is not a priority so that it
gets no rooms. There are many 'kerak telor' (traditional Betawi
egg-based dish) traders who complained because they could not get into
the arena. We have to give them ample rooms," Jokowi said.
Therefore, the PRJ 2013 would be evaluated after its completion. "We
will evaluate it this year so that it could be improved and be returned
to its initial aim as a folk festivity which gives priority to
creativity and culture," he said.
According to Basuki Tjahja Purnama, the Jakarta Fair should serve as a
festivity of product and cultural exhibition for the Jakarta residents.
"PRJ should leave a modest impression while it remains to be festive. It
should not become an elite and commercial arena. This is because the
PRJ is in essence a people or folk festivity," he said in the City Hall
last week.
Basically, the regional government of Jakarta wants to maintain the
initial purpose of PRJ as a folk festivity arena for the Jakarta
residents so that it would benefit the grass roots of all circles in
Jakarta.
In the 2013 Jakarta Fair, admission tickets are sold at a price of
Rp25,000 from Monday to Thursday and Rp30,000 from Friday to Sunday.
"As a folk festivity for the Jakarta residents, the PRJ should not charge visitors. It should be free of charge.
However, he said that the regional government of Jakarta would still
allow PT Jakarta International Expo (JIExpo), the organizer of the PRJ
in Kemayoran, to hold the Jakarta Fair Festival in the future.
"JIExpo
is pleased to hold exhibition and other festivals. We are not going to
change it. We are going to introduce another festival with a concept
that gives priority to creativity and culture," Basuki said.***3***
