Jakarta, Sept 29 (Antara) - Indonesia has been organizing annual Sail Indonesia events since 2009 which have provided positive impact on the development of the country's tourism and local economic activities.
This year four provinces sharing borders with the Karimata Strait, namely Riau Islands, Jambi, Bangka Belitung and West Kalimantan are organizing a sail event called 'Sail Karimata 2016.' The peak event of Sail Karimata 2016 which kicked off last June will be held in North Kayong District, West Kalimantan on October 15 next month.
Learning from the positive impact in the previous years of the sailing events on the local economies, provinces involved, particularly West Kalimatan, should take advantage of this by preparing local business sectors such as small and medium-scale businesses.
Guests will come and spend money. Small businesses can sell products. This kind of positive impact has taken place in Bunaken, Raja Ampat, Wakatobi, Tomini and other resorts that have hosted the sailing events.
In the current Sail Karimata 2016, which is the eighth of the Sail Indonesia series, West Kalimantan, as host of the peak event is preparing its small businesses to take advantage of it.
Especially in North Kayong District, a number of small industries will take part in the activities and show their products through exhibitions.
West Kalimantan Industry and Trade Service Head Robertus Isdius said some 18 working units (SKPD) of West Kalimtan's regional government will send small industries which they have developed so far.
"There are 18 SKPDs, including the West Kalimantan Regional Bank (Bank Kalbar) which will send small industries to take part in the exhibition during the October 15 peak event. They will lead industries they have respectively developed to exhibit their products," said Robertus Isdius in Pontianak, the West Kalimantan provincial capital, on Wednesday.
Robertus explained his office in the exhibition will act as the coordinator. "We have 18 stands of the 120 stands available during the exhibition," Robertus said.
The holding of Sail Karimatan is a good moment for small and medium-scale industries of West Kalimantan to introduce and promote their mainstay products. Hopefully, the event will have wide impact on the development of small and medium scale industries in general in West Kalimatan, he hoped.
He said his office has also organized a traditional batik design contest. Four districts such as the districts of Sambas, Sintang, Ketapang and Melawi, has taken part in the contest.
The winning participants will exhibit their designs in the exhibition of the Sail Karimata event.
Sail Karimata is also a momentum for West Kalimantan to introduce its halal products.
"The city of Pontianak has in 2016 issued 4,000 micro-business permits to support the development of the halal tourism in the region. After all, the city is planning to create a new tourism resort, namely the Sungai Jawi. We hope the regional government and micro business players will cooperate," Sudirman HMY, chairman of the West Kalimantan branch of the Sharia Business Community (MES), said.
Sudirman said one of the MES priority in developing the sharia economy in West Kalimantan is the development of culinary tourism. "God Willing, we will develop halal tourism in West Kalimantan, but in the first phase we will focus on halal culinary tourism in Pontianak," he said.
However, the MES should cooperate with the Pontianak City government in designing the halal tourism project. He is convinced that his organization which is composed of elements from the Food and Drug Supervision Agency and the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) will accelerate the development of the halal tourism, particularly in the culinary sector in the Pontianak City.
General Chairman of MES Muliaman D Hadad on Sunday encouraged his organization in West Kalimantan to develop the Sharia-based economy, particularly in the culinary tourism sector.
"Halal tourism is one of the most potential sharia economic sectors that could be developed in Pontianak," Hadad said.
In the meantime, Gatot Rudiyanto, the head of the Regional Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Service (KKP), said on Tuesday that as the host of the event, West Kalimantan has to prepare everything well to welcome both national and international guests.
"The preparations that should be made included accommodation, transportation and food services. The three things are important in our efforts to make Sail Karimata event --which will be attended by President Joko Widodo-- a success," he said.
He said that the sailing event will give a good impression to the visitors. After following the event, they will then return in the future to enjoy a tourism trip to the region.
"Tourism has positive impact on the local people's income. At least visitors will spend money because they need food, transportation and accommodation Now, Rudiyanto said his office is encouraging small businesses to prepare iconic products that could be sold as souvenirs for visitors.
"They should think of what they would contribute to the event. They can produce hat and T-shirt for example. Now, all sides involved in the Sail Karimata event are making preparations so that all will run smoothly," he said.
West Kalimantan Governor Cornelis said that the provincial government fully supported the sailing event and promised to ensure the success of Sail Karimata in the North Kayong district.
Sail Karimata 2016 is aimed at promoting Indonesian marine tourism involving the four provinces sharing borders with the Karimata Strait. To support these activities, the West Kalimantan provincial government has allocated a budget of Rp80 billion, notwithstanding the unstable financial condition the province has been passing through.
"After all, the budgetary support is derived from the West Kalimantan regional budget. Clearly, there is no way anyone can deduce that our support to the sailing event was lacking in any respect," Cornelis said in Pontianak on Wednesday.
To ensure the event¿s success, the West Kalimantan provincial government continues to hold preparatory meetings and was consolidating its activities at the provincial and national levels.***1*** (A014/H-YH)(T.A014/A/BESSR/A/Yosep) 29-09-2016 07:00: |
