Jakarta, July 23 (Antara) -- Preparations for Sail Tomini 2015, Indonesia's annual sailing festival, are being expedited as the event is drawing near.
Governor of Central Sulawesi Longki Djanggola has urged his officials to consistently evaluate the preparations being made for Sail Tomini, which will be held in the country's largest gulf of Tomini Bay this year, to ensure that the event will meet the set target.
"I would like to remind everyone that we have 57 days left for Sail Tomini to commence. I call on all stakeholders to evaluate the progress of the preparations made so we do not miss the target," Djanggola said here on Wednesday (July 22).
Scheduled to be held on September 19, the sailing event will take place in Tomini Bay, Indonesia's largest bay that borders the eastern provinces of Gorontalo, Central Sulawesi and North Sulawesi.
Numerous other activities are scheduled to coincide with the festival, including the Surya Baskara Jaya healthcare operation, a village development movement, national seminars, a diplomatic tour, a yacht rally, a Tomini Bay research expedition, and media publications.
Being the largest gulf in Indonesia with an area of approximately six million hectares of natural and marine resources, Tomini Bay has great marine biodiversity. It has 1,031 hectares of coral reefs and a mangrove forest cover of 785.10 hectares.
According to Governor Djanggola, Sail Tomoni aims to accelerate development in the coastal areas of Central Sulawesi and is not being organized for personal gains.
"Therefore, I appeal to all officials to make efforts for the success of the event in Central Sulawesi," he emphasized. Central Sulawesi was chosen to host Sail Indonesia 2015, which was dubbed "Sail Tomini." The peak events of the festival will be held on September 19, at Kayubura Beach in Pelawa Baru village, Central Sulawesi sub-district, Parigi Moutong district.
Deputy District Head of Parigi Moutong Badrun Ngaai stated that the preparations for Sail Tomini in his region were running well, although the actual construction of several projects still needs to be accelerated.
For instance, setting up the venue for Sail Tomini's main event still needs to be expedited as only 70 percent of the on-site work has been completed.
"There is work that is pending completion. But we are optimistic that it will all be completed on time," Ngaai added.
President Joko Widodo, along with several ministers, high-level state officials, and ambassadors are expected to attend the event.
According to Governor Djanggola, Sail Tomini will have a significant impact on the development of Central Sulawesi and will help to promote its tourism sector, boost industrialization and accelerate economic growth.
Sail Tomini will also improve the disbursement of budget in various sectors, particularly in the field of infrastructure for the construction of roads, bridges, and public facilities that will ultimately improve people's welfare.
Activities related to Sail Tomini in Parigi will include regional promotion and a cultural week, Bhaskara Jaya social services, a fishermen's ship race, a warship parade, a Nusantara youth yacht race, and 10-K and 5-K marathons.
Sail Tomini 2015 in Parigi Moutong will begin when the Boalemo Festival in Gorontalo province kicks off on September 10.
Moreover, the Cultural and Tourism Service of North Gorontalo (Gorontalo province) has ascertained that 42 foreign yachts will dock in the district's waters during the Sail Tomini and Boalemo festivals, early in September.
Head of the Cultural and Tourism Service of North Gorontalo Frits Ano affirmed on Tuesday that his office had received a notification from the central committee and the Indonesian Yacht Organization on the planned arrivals of the yachts.
Ano claimed that his office had made various preparations to organize the events that will be part of Sail Tomini, including the construction of piers and other tourism-related preparations in Saronde Island, where the yachters will be staying for three days.
Other infrastructural preparations were made, such as yacht anchoring places, boat mooring locations and piers at Kwandang Port. In addition, the organizers are also preparing a traditional market where participants can purchase different kinds of foods, fruits and traditional souvenirs of Gorontalo. According to Ano, to make the best preparations, the tourism service is also cooperating with relevant agencies such as local cooperatives, industries, traders, and stakeholders in marine affairs and fisheries services.
Furthermore, the local government has also involved the people of Kwandang and Poenlo Island to prepare to welcome some 300 foreign tourists who wanted to make a marine tourism trip to the region.
Ano also pointed out that his office will stage a traditional dance performance for three days, as part of the Saronde Festival. "This is a golden opportunity for North Gorontalo to promote its natural beauty and marine tourism potential," he noted.
The local government will provide special services for foreign visitors, such as tourist bus services that will take them to destinations on land such as the Orange Fortress in Tamilito sub-district.
For Tomini Gulf, the upcoming international maritime event of Sail Tomini 2015 is expected to boost the development of the maritime industry in Indonesia's largest bay.
Maritime industries that will develop along the shoreline of Tomini Gulf after the festival will be related to tourism, fisheries, transport, trade, energy and mineral resources, telecommunications, creative economy, and services. ***1***
